Des Fediverse ist ein gigantischen Netzwerk an Social Media Plattformen.
Es gibt Plattformen für microbloggen, bloggen, photobloggen, Video hosten und viel viel mehr und sie sind alle miteinender vernetzt oder föderiert.
Du brauchst also nur einen Account um User*innen auf anderen Plattformen zu folgen.

Stell dir vor

Stell dir vor Twitter, Facebook, Instagram & Co wären alle Teil eines gigantischen Netzwerks. Das ist quasi was das Fediverse ist, außer, dass die einzelnen Teile weniger bekannt, Freie Software und föderiert sind.

Im Fediverse kannst du von deinem "Twitter" Account mit "Facebook" Accounts interagieren, "Instagram" Posts teilen, "Youtube" Videos kommentieren, "Spotify" Musik anhören, "Blogger" Blogs folgen, in "Reddit" Diskussionen teilnehmen und mehr.

The Fediverse and its projects let you make your own social media part of a bigger network.

It has many advantages over traditional social media like Twitter and Instagram. Due to its decentralized nature it's possible to create circles of more tiny social media with users to hang out with. Hosting your own instance lets you make your own rules. Most instance owners maintain an instance with their own money for the sake of having their own platform and not for making money from you by serving ads as an example.

The Fediverse innovates on what has worked before and adds many new features. A commonly supported feature is custom emojis. Similarly to Discord, it lets administrators add their own (even animated) emoji. The Fediverse also lets you decide who gets to see your posts: with so called scopes, you can decide whether only the users you mention, your followers or the public gets to see them.

Ethik

Traditionelles Social Media ist nicht sozial. Es ist nicht für dich gemacht, sondern um dich auszubeuten und ist dabei voll von Werbung und Fake News.
Das liegt darn, dass hinter traditionellem Social Media große Geldmache steckt.
Hinter dem Fediverse steckt der Gedanke den Menschen zu helfen.
Das Ziel von traditionellem Social Media ist es die Menschen zu lenken.
Das Ziel vom Fediverse ist es die Menschen zu ermächtigen das Fediverse zu lenken.

Terminologie

Dein Account, auch genannt deine Identität, hat eine einmalige Adresse im Fediverse, die als Handle oder kurz @ bezeichnet wird. Dieser wird auf einem Server, genannt Instanz, gehostet. * Eine Instanz ist quasi ein kleines Social Media Netzwerk, das auf einem Server läuft. Jede Instanz kann ihre eigenen Regeln haben und gewisse Inhalte erlauben oder verbieten. Du kannst auch deine eigene Instanz hosten. Jede Instanz läuft mit einem Software Projekt.
Die Software die auf einer Instanz benutzt wird ist essenziell für das User*innen Erlebnis und die Möglichkeiten.
Viele Software Projekte nutzen das gleiche Protokoll das den Instanzen ermöglicht miteinander zu kommunizieren. Die meisten Projekte verwenden Activity Pub. Manche Projekte können (noch) nicht gut mit anderen Projekten föderieren.
Das Fediverse (federated universe) ist die Summe aller Accounts auf allen Instanzen die jegliche Software benutzen und mit einem der Protokolle kommunizieren.
Dabei inkludiert das Fediverse nicht nur Social Media Projekte. Jegliche Software, die mit Hilfe eines offenem Protokolls föderiert ist Teil des Fediverse.
@PaulaToThePeople@ClimateJustice.social ist ein Beispiel für einen Handle. ClimateJustice.social ist die Instanz, auf der sich der Account befindet. Die Software die auf der Instanz läuft ist Mastodon. Dank Activity Pub kann der Account anderen Accounts auf Instanzen folgen, auf denen z.B. Mastodon, GNU Social oder Pixelfed läuft.

Wenn du erst mal nur das Fediverse kennen lernen willst, ohne dir zu viele Gedanken machen zu wollen, wo du hinpasst, dann könntest du z.b. einen Account bei mastodon.social oder mastodon.online anlegen.
Du kannst später Instanz wechseln oder weitere Accounts auf verschiedenen Instanzen und Projekten anlegen.
