I User:Paula am thinking about restructuring the Wiki and will write down my vision here.
Ongoing changes
I've started with these steps.
Namespaces ✅
We now have these custom namespaces on the wiki:
Changing titles of articles
Titles of articles should be the simplest form possible, so e.g. "Fediverse" instead of "What is the Fediverse?".
When I move the articles I have to do these things later:
- Use Special:ReplaceText to change all internal links.
- later add the old page again and make it a redirect to the new one.
List of titles to change:
- Account creation ✅
- Akkoma ✅
- BookWyrm ✅
- Ecko (discontinued) ✅
- Fediverse ✅
- Firefish (discontinued) ✅
- Friendica ✅
- Funkwhale ✅
- Hosting an instance ✅
- Mastodon ✅
- Moderation (Mastodon) ✅
- GoToSocial ✅
- Channels (Hubzilla & (streams)) ✅
- Hubzilla ✅
- Kbin (discontinued) ✅
- Lemmy ✅
- Misskey ✅
- Mistpark ✅
- Mobilizon ✅
- Osada (discontinued) ✅
- PeerTube ✅
- Pixelfed ✅
- Pleroma ✅
- Owncast ✅
- What is Redmatrix? ‼️
- Roadhouse ✅
- WriteFreely ✅
- Zap (discontinued) ✅
- koyu.space ✅
- nomadic identity ✅
- What people usually tell you about the Fediverse
- Getting started with your Fediverse account
- Welcome to the Fediverse Quickstart guide
- Fediverse projects ✅
Later fix messes that were created:
- Special:WantedPages
- change some
{{DISPLAYTITLE:displaytitles}}
. - Special:PageTranslation
- Main Page
- Fediverse projects
- Special:BrokenRedirects
- Special:DoubleRedirects
Main Page
The Main Page should already have a section explaining what the Fediverse is.
Fediverse
The main article about the Fediverse, currently found at Fediverse, will be designed anew.
I started drafting at Draft:New Fediverse Article.
Categories
The categories will reflect the main questions.
- What is it? How do I join? -> Category:Fediverse
- How do I use it? -> Category:Usage
- How can I host and administer? -> Category:Administration
- How can I moderate? -> Category:Moderation
- What is this wiki? -> Category:Meta
- How can I help (editing, translating)? -> Category:Editing guides
- (Then of course there should be categories for each of the Category:Fediverse projects.)
These should be color coded and when you visit an article it should be obvious which category the article belongs to, so you don't e.g. end up on articles about editing this wiki or hosting a Fediverse instance, if you just want to know what the Fediverse even is.
Terminology
In the user guides we might want to switch to terms that people who are not experienced Fediverse users are used to.
- Fediverse project -> Platform? Server software? Fediverse flavor? Service? Way to experience the Fediverse?
Redirects
There should be redirects for the names of corporate social media platforms and they should lead to a Fediverse equivalent or a list of similar Fediverse services. E.g. Instagram -> Pixelfed, Twitter -> List of Microblogging Services, etc...
Sidebar
The sidebar should have these items:
- Main page
- The Fediverse
- What is it?
- How do I join?
- How do I use it?
- This wiki
- About
- Navigation
- Categories
- Editing/Translating
- For Editors
- Guides & Guidelines
- Todos
- Special pages
