It has many advantages over traditional social media like Twitter and Instagram. Due to its decentralized nature it's possible to create circles of more tiny social media with users to hang out with. Hosting your own instance lets you make your own rules. Most instance owners maintain an instance with their own money for the sake of having their own platform and not for making money from you by serving ads as an example.

Tiene muchas ventajas sobre las redes sociales tradicionales como Twitter e Instagram. Debido a su naturaleza descentralizada, es posible crear círculos sociales más pequeños con usuarixs con los que compartir. Hospedar tu propia instancia (servidor) te permite crear tus propias reglas. La mayoría de lxs administradorxs de instancias las mantienen con sus propios recursos, por el mero fin de tener su propia plataforma social y no con el fin de hacer dinero mostrando publicidad, por ejemplo.
