I [[User:Paula]] am thinking about restructuring the Wiki and will write down my vision here.
I'm trying to restructure the wiki a bit and then create more content to answer the most basic questions people have about the Fediverse.

==Ongoing changes==
==Finished changes==

I've started with these steps.
* '''Namespaces''': We now have 2 new namespaces. Draft and Archive. You can find e.g. {{Internal link |target=Draft:Captions}} and {{Internal link |target=Archive:Mastodon features explained}} in the new namespaces.
* '''Article titles''': I renamed all articles that were titled "What is...?" or "What are...?" to the more simple title, e.g. {{Internal link |target=Mastodon}} instead of {{Internal link |target=What is Mastodon?}} (which redirects to the former though).
* '''Categories''': I removed some categories like the "What is" category and added a few new ones, like [[:Category:Usage]].

===Namespaces ✅===
==Ongoing changes==

We now have these custom namespaces on the wiki:

* [https://joinfediverse.wiki/Special:AllPages?from=&to=&namespace=3000 Portal]
* [https://joinfediverse.wiki/Special:AllPages?from=&to=&namespace=3002 Instance]
* [https://joinfediverse.wiki/Special:AllPages?from=&to=&namespace=3004 Fedizen]
* [https://joinfediverse.wiki/Special:AllPages?from=&to=&namespace=3006 Draft] (New)
* [https://joinfediverse.wiki/Special:AllPages?from=&to=&namespace=3008 Archive] (New)

===Changing titles of articles===

Titles of articles should be the simplest form possible, so e.g. "Fediverse" instead of "What is the Fediverse?".<br>
When I move the articles I have to do these things later:
* Use [[Special:ReplaceText]] to change all internal links.
* later add the old page again and make it a redirect to the new one.

List of titles to change:

* [[Account creation]] ✅
* [[Akkoma]] ✅
* [[BookWyrm]] ✅
* [[Ecko (disbanded)]] ✅
* [[Fediverse]] ✅
* [[Firefish (disbanded)]] ✅
* [[Friendica]] ✅
* [[Funkwhale]] ✅
* [[Hosting an instance]] ✅
* [[Mastodon]] ✅
* [[Moderation (Mastodon)]] ✅
* [[GoToSocial]] ✅
* [[Channels (Hubzilla & (streams))]] ✅
* [[Hubzilla]] ✅
* [[Kbin]] ✅
* [[Lemmy]] ✅
* {{Internal link |target=Misskey}} ✅
* [[What is Mistpark?]] ‼️
* {{Internal link |target=Mobilizon}} ✅
* [[Osada (disbanded)]]
* [[What is PeerTube?]]
* [[What is Pixelfed?]]
* [[What is Pleroma?]]
* [[What is Redmatrix?]] ‼️
* [[What is Roadhouse?]]
* [[What is WriteFreely?]]
* [[What is Zap?]]
* {{Internal link |target=koyu.space (disbanded) |link-name=koyu.space}} ✅
* {{Internal link |target=nomadic identity}} ✅
* [[What people usually tell you about the Fediverse]]
* [[Getting started with your Fediverse account]]
* [[Welcome to the Fediverse Quickstart guide]]
* [[What are Fediverse projects?]]

Later fix messes that were created:
* [[Special:WantedPages]]
* change some {{Ic|<nowiki>{{DISPLAYTITLE:displaytitles}}</nowiki>}}.
* [[Special:PageTranslation]]
* [[Main Page]]
* [[What are Fediverse projects?]]

==Main Page==

The Main Page should already have a section explaining what the Fediverse is.

==Fediverse==

The main article of the Wiki should be the one about the Fediverse, currently found at [[Fediverse]].
It should answer the 3 main questions (+sub-questions) about the Fediverse:

* What is it?
** What does Fediverse even mean?
** What is the advantage?
** Who is it for?
** What is the Fediverse not?
** What is not the Fediverse?
* How do I join?
** Which server software should I use?
** Which instance should I join?
** Can I switch instances later?
** What client apps should I use?
* How do I use it?
** Why is my home timeline empty?
** Where do I find people to follow?
** Can I follow hashtags and groups?
** How can people find my account?
** How do I set up my profile?
** What should I post first?
** What settings should I change?
** How can I build up my followers?
** What cool features should I try?
** What does this feature do?

==Categories==

The main categories should be the ones with user guides and answer the questions (these are not proposed category names):

* What is it?
* How do I join?
* How do I use it?
* What else might I want to know?
* How can I host?
* How can I moderate?
* What is this wiki?
* How can I help (editing, translating)?
* (Then of course there should be categories for each server software.)

These should be color coded and when you visit an article it should be obvious which category the article belongs to, so you don't e.g. end up on articles about editing this wiki or hosting a Fediverse instance, if you just want to know what the Fediverse even is.

==Terminology==

In the user guides we might want to switch to terms that people who are not experienced Fediverse users are used to.

* Fediverse project -> Platform? Server software? Fediverse flavor? Service? Way to experience the Fediverse?

==Redirects==

There should be redirects for the names of corporate social media platforms and they should lead to a Fediverse equivalent or a list of similar Fediverse services. E.g. Instagram -> Pixelfed, Twitter -> List of Microblogging Services, etc...

==Sidebar==
* '''Fediverse''' I'm drafting a new Fediverse article where you can find answers to basic questions in a more structured way. {{Internal link |target=Draft:New Fediverse Article}}
* The '''Main page''' should already have a section explaining what the Fediverse is.
* '''Redirects''': Adding redirects for popular social media redirecting to Fediverse equivalents or lists of equivalents. Already added: {{Internal link |target=Instagram}}, {{Internal link |target=Reddit}}, {{Internal link |target=Youtube}}, {{Internal link |target=Goodreads}}, missing: Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr
* '''Sidebar''': I'll edit the sidebar to contain these items Main page, The Fediverse (What is it?, How do I join?, How do I use it?), This wiki (About, Navigation, Categories, Editing/Translating), For Editors, Guides & Guidelines, Todos, Special pages, Help about MediaWiki, Recent changes
* [[What people usually tell you about the Fediverse]], [[Getting started with your Fediverse account]], [[Welcome to the Fediverse Quickstart guide]] might be renamed or split/merged with different articles.

The sidebar should have these items:
==Finishing touches==

* Main page
* I'm going to edit the editing guides to document the new changes.
* The Fediverse
* I'm going to check all reports to fix errors.
** What is it?
* I'm going to try to find translators to update/fix the translations.
** How do I join?
** How do I use it?
* This wiki
** About
** Navigation
** Categories
** Editing/Translating
* For Editors
** Guides & Guidelines
** Todos
** Special pages
** Help about MediaWiki

I'm trying to restructure the wiki a bit and then create more content to answer the most basic questions people have about the Fediverse.

Finished changes

  • Namespaces: We now have 2 new namespaces. Draft and Archive. You can find e.g. Draft:Captions and Archive:Mastodon features explained in the new namespaces.
  • Article titles: I renamed all articles that were titled "What is...?" or "What are...?" to the more simple title, e.g. Mastodon instead of What is Mastodon? (which redirects to the former though).
  • Categories: I removed some categories like the "What is" category and added a few new ones, like Category:Usage.

Finishing touches

  • I'm going to edit the editing guides to document the new changes.
  • I'm going to check all reports to fix errors.
  • I'm going to try to find translators to update/fix the translations.
