| What size should the instance be?

| On smaller instances you might feel more cozy with your instance-mates and on larger instances you might have a wider view of the Fediverse and more reach, but there is no rule here, it can also be the other way around. We don't recommend instances with more than 2.000 monthly active users, as such large instances are very bad for federation and moderation.

| How strict should moderation be?

| We only recommend instances that moderate against hate speech, harassment, trolling and discrimination, but you still might not feel like you can be yourself on an instance that is not very strict.

| Which focus should the instance have?
|
| None of these selections limit your connections to accounts that share that topic or location, but you might find it easier to find "your people", if you're already on an instance with them. Also the domain name, which will be part of your handle, might suit you better.
