The handling of images and other media is a lot different from Mastodon and other micro-blogging projects. They aren't uploaded and attached to posts. Instead, they're first uploaded to the managed file space which is part of each channel. Then they are embedded into posts or, with a trick, comments as links to the uploaded files.
