Instead, they're first uploaded to the managed file space which is part of each channel. Then they are embedded into posts or, with a trick, comments as links to the uploaded files. Alt-text is added by editing the BBcode and theoretically unlimited in length, too, but it should not exceed 1,500 characters when ActivityPub is activated.
